Our Doulas

Tapestry Birth is a collective of birth professionals founded by Marci Mathew, Cara Birnbaum Harmon, and Lisa Schillo Acevedo.  We provide education and support through pregnancy, birth, and early parenting.

Our services include childbirth education, birth and postpartum doula care, breastfeeding support, and other workshops and services to help women, along with their loved ones, build their village and enter parenthood with confidence.

Cara Birnbaum Harmon
Cara was a freelance magazine writer when she learned she was pregnant with her second child. Thanks in part to her doula Marci (see below), Cara was able to overcome her fears surrounding childbirth and weather contractions peacefully with her husband in their dark bedroom before heading to the hospital. The delivery was exhilarating, to say the least, inspiring her to take a DONA doula training course with Debra Pascali Bonaro. Cara is also a Lamaze-certified childbirth educator and has completed over 50 hours of coursework through the Childbirth Education Association of Metropolitan New York. She lives in Montclair, NJ, with her husband, two children, and a writing career that keeps her busy on the side.
